Why Blogs Die

Categories:  Blogging, Internet Marketing

Over the years of working with blogs that are not mine, I realized I haven’t really spent much time and attention on my own blogs.  I started with free blogs and when I learned there is not much money in limited/free blogs, I started buying domains.  I had made an ample amount but over the years, I found myself moving away and letting those blogs rot in silence.  My blogs were running, got stuck, rot, died and reborn but only to be subjected to the same cycle.  I’m sure some site owners had the same experience.  Why do blogs die?  The reason is simple.  There is just not enough reason to blog.  It may sound silly but it’s reality.

When you run out of reason and motivation to do something, that something will eventually fall to nothing.  So before you plunge into the waters of blogging and site development, think.  Why are you doing it at all?  Is it for money?  Is it for visibility?  Is it to connect you with friends and family?  Is it to cure boredom?   Answer these questions and commit to it.  If along the road, you find yourself slipping away from blogging to make room for more important things like pregnancy, family, offline career, etc… then go on a blogging hiatus by all means.   Blogs don’t hold grudges and are easily resurrected.

Blogging is Hard

Categories:  Blogging

I bought my very first site Eklaboo.com 3 years ago.  Back then (2006), blogging was unheard of, well, it was, but not as it is now.  As a media buyer in the days when there was not much publishers and bloggers, it was challenging to get leads for our advertisers.  Some bloggers who just blogged for the sake of blogging even suspected my emails as spam and my offers as fraud.  It was challenging but fun.  I spent a great deal of time hopping from one blog to another, surfing from blogroll to blogroll only to get a handful of interested publishers at the end of the day.  I was doing that for around 3 years until we had an advertising system running.  It was fun.   I loved doing it and to be honest, I miss doing it – the blog buying job, that is.

So why do I say blogging is hard?  I’m just speaking for myself.  Don’t get me wrong.  Blogging is fun, not very easy – challenging in fact.  But you get to earn while having fun.  It’s finding time to blog that is hard.  To most bloggers, blogging serves as their outlet from the daily grind.  To me, blogging IS my daily grind.  I can’t tell anymore how many blogrolls I’ve rolled, sidebars counted, Entrecard dropped, links hovered, pages visited.  At the end of my normal day, as much as I wanted to mind my own blog, looking at one more would just make me puke!

If you have time to spare, then blog!  Consider yourself lucky for having such commodity.  The Internet is opening windows and doors of opportunities as I speak.  Yes, the market is getting competitive but so are the things that we can do to earn.  Everything is growing exponentially.  If you want to jump aboard the online marketing world, now is your best chance.

hmmm… Do I hear a “How?”  I shall cover a series of the how to’s of blogging and affiliate marketing in the coming days :)

Philippine Peso as PayPal Holding Currency

Good news to all PayPal users in the Philippines.  PayPal, Inc. has amended their User Agreement and Payments Policy effective 2 days ago, 14th of October, 2009.  The Payments policy and buyer protection policy are modified to include Philippine Peso as a holding currency.  Other currencies added were Taiwanese Dollar, Thai Baht, Malaysian Ringgit, Argentinean Peso, and Brazilian Reais.

This simply means you may now set your main currency to PHP and no longer with USD. Before this amendment, all PayPal transactions done by accounts set-up in the Philippines has to convert the amounts to any of the unrestricted currencies like USD, GBP, AUD or EUR.  PH PayPal accounts are used mainly for receiving USD payments. The sending option is only available if and only if your PayPal balance is funded. But now, we can add a Philippine Bank account as source of funds to facilitate more transactions.  We can now withdraw funds FROM our PHP bank accounts and add PayPal balance to do Mass Payments, issue e-checks, etc. In the past, only USA bank accounts can be used for these transaction types. I’m super excited about this development.  I just created a business account and will now go full swing with my online business.  I believe this is going to make a lot of difference in the Philippine’s web presence.

You may check the PayPal Amendment on Payment Policy here.

Blogging Tools

Finally, I found a list of top Firefox addons to make my browsing life much more convenient.   I spend most of my waking time on the Internet, for work and personal projects.  But with my current home life, having two babies at that, my own projects are often pushed back and goals are seldom met due to lack of time and a lot of distractions.  Browsing through websites, logging in on accounts like Entrecard, etc take seconds or maybe even minutes to connect.  The more time is taken when you jump pages to pages just to view credits, and other details you might want to check.  So I thought, if only there’s a way to save those seconds and minutes.  Indeed, there is.  The Firefox Add-ons.  Right now, am using ScribeFire – so that I don’t have to log in to my blogs whenever I feel like writing.

We have different reasons for browsing and staying on the Net.  What’s best for me may not suit you so read on the link above for more info on which tool to use.
