My routine and recent projects are slowly drifting me away from the world of gaming. Don’t get me wrong, I did pay a visit to Azeroth and my toons a couple of weeks ago. And while I was there, I can still feel the same rush and excitement. But behind my gaming seat are dishes to wash, clothes to fold, beds to fix and kids pulling my elbows for attention. Then just an Alt+tab away are emails to reply to, documents to sort, modules to finish… the list is endless. Priorities do change and I guess that’s true for most of us. This simply means at this point, I can no longer blog about WOW here. I still consider all my tasks as “Heroic Dailies” so I won’t be changing by blog title ^_^ but you might see some changes and shifts in content focus in the next coming days. Just thought you’d know.

I haven’t played the World of Warcraft for about 8 months now. Been juggling work, personal projects, home and motherhood all at once since December last year. And WOW gaming sadly had been pushed down to the bottom of my priority list. I miss the game and especially the fun I have when I’m in it.

Playing WOW is very much like entering a whole new different world. Why is it addictive and destructive for some? Probably because once you set foot in Azeroth, you feel this immense freedom, power and control over yourself and all resources around you – things that you don’t get as easily in real life – at least for some. You can be someone and no one would care how you look or how rich or poor you are in real life. Gaming could be a terrible habit if it’s being used to escape relationship problems, financial difficulties and other real challenges that are making this physical life unbearable or exasperating.

If you’re a mom, wife, daughter or girlfriend of someone playing WOW and you feel that it’s eating up the other person’s life, I suggest you check your relationship status. See if there are resentments or unresolved issues and WOW is their way of venting out. It will also be wise to let the other person know how his gaming makes you feel and how it’s affecting your home. You may also agree on play hours so that family time is not sacrificed. And if you are ever interested, get to know the game and play together… why not?

WOW is a great game but just like fame, money and food, having too much of it (in an overwhelming proportion) can be detrimental. I believe “Self-Control” is listed in gifts of the Spirit for a reason. WOW players need to practice this virtue… don’t we all?

I’ve been wondering why my site seems to be linking out to unrelated, unknown external websites. Using SEOX-ray, I was able to trace these External links. The total number reached about 668. You can’t easily spot these links when you look at any of the pages. But you can see it in messy shambles of codes all over the HTML sheet. So after exporting the .csv links list via SEO X-ray, I saw keywords and target URLs that were attached to a large number of pages without my permission. Tracing the URL, I found links to have been generated automatically by the plug ins I installed. Take note, these plug-ins were deactivated since last year. Apparently, deactivation does not stop these plug-ins from actually generating back links for various websites – possibly owned by the creators. Immediately, I deleted these plug-ins and left my settings to run with just two essential ones: Akismet and SEOPack. In an instant, my external link count was reduced from 668 to 17. Imagine that!

Lesson learned, be extra cautious with plug-ins. Perhaps the truth holds that in life, nothing comes for free. If you get something without shelling out some cash, the catch will come in another shape or form. Link juice is the Internet currency. Unmindful linking will not only render your pages messy, it will also reduce the value of your website in terms of ranking and web significance.

In case you wonder what happened to Deetsie.com, it’s going through yet another blog revamp. Thanks to my husband, I recently joined a network giving out free blog post. But of course, it comes with a link to another website. So I thought why not as long as I am able to moderate, this should be beneficial to me. I haven’t really written any good, personal entry. Oh the last one I made was when Ea turned 3 which was 5 months ago. So I welcomed the free entries. But my oh my, the posts came automatically via XML feed and it was flooding my blog to an overwhelming level and it felt like it was invading my whole house. So I thought, that does it. I have to stop it. Unfortunately it left me imprints and my sites now have 668 external links and 115 internal links. This proportion is a total set back. And to think I’m doing a lot of premium site evaluations! Totally embarrassing, eh? Good thing my website does not have much visitors except for family and friends who visit this page at least once every three months maybe, LOL. (Prove me wrong!)

So here I am, undoing a wrong doing. I did quite a handful of linking back in the days and I haven’t thought about doing on-page linking. Now I’ll be removing old external links and improve my pages. Bear with my default theme until I get my “desired” blog quality back, SEO-wise. See you at the top!

Saving for your child’s college becomes a priority but it may not be as important as saving for your own retirement. Why? Because your children will have more sources of money to pay for tuition fees in college and ample opportunities to earn and save unveils as they go though the schooling. The sooner you start stashing cash, the better. The little that you have right now will soon grow if you give them enough time to.

Tuition costs rise faster than inflation and stocks are best way to build enough savings in the long term. But you don’t have to save the entire cost of four years of college. Government and private grants and loans can bridge the gap between your savings and tuition bills.

Investing for college comes simple, too with mutual funds which takes charge in watching money market daily.

What’s important is that your child should learn to appreciate the value of earning bucks while studying. Students who earn their own pocket learn to budget and are forced to learn time management skills necessary for the rest of their lives.

Countless ways await the students who want to finish a degree. For one, they can buy cheap college textbooks. Doing so help them save extras. As text books play a great part in college and buying new ones can drain the pocket, renting text books becomes more practical.

It’s my little Ea’s birthday today. Jeedo and I didn’t plan to do anything grand, I mean, it’s more like, we’re not planning to “spend” for anything grand because we’d like to keep the expenses within our means. And besides, Ea had a blast celebrations on her first 2 birthdays. But being a mom, I still wanted to make this day special for her. So I went to the mall yesterday and bought balloons, banners and food to cook. I still spent around $150 and did some preparations She had a mini-Strawberry shortcake themed party with pink banners and balloons all over our small house. It was lovely to see Ea’s eyes glow in awe as I told her it’s her birthday and all of the goodies are for her.

Last night, after getting the salads and marinades ready for the big day, I realized we have no guests coming because we didn’t invite anyone. Right away, I made a soft .jpg invitation which I made for like 5 mins and posted it over facebook for our friends and family to see. It’s lovely because a lot of people responded with warm greetings for the little one. But none really replied to join the little party. But it’s fine, some friends and families did come over and most have brought food home with them.

So they say the target date to launch is December 7th, 2010. I reckon, it must be why the last invite I got expires November 30. By December 6th, my free game time would all be spent. And that should get me kickin’ to load up and play on the Cataclysm launch. Good thinking. But as it has always been, target date is a date that Blizzard wants to ship their game, nothing more, nothing less. It means that they have a plan and schedule to get the game ready by. But as everyone knows, game launch schedules can and do change. Some time last year Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard, confirmed during a DirecTV interview that Cataclysm will be launched 2010. The year is almost over so it MUST be this December alright.

I was having problems restoring our PLDT DSL connection. I had to leave the city to visit my sickly Umpo Adok in Davao Oriental so I opted to put all the troubles aside until I return. There’s beauty in being away from the routine. I had 2 days at home with nature – birds, mountains, rivers, crickets, trees and flowers.

My online absence felt like I was totally detached from work and from the world. But I can’t stay offline for long. I know loads and loads of emails will flood my Inbox. So I bought this Globe tattoo so I can check and continue working even at home (my parents place). PLDT said they can restore our home line in 3 forever years..no way.. I wish I can afford to be gone that long. So while waiting, I’m connected 24ever. Just rambling here really. I pulled up my own site to check loading speed. and of course, this post is the first page to load up. Yun lang, bow!

This question didn’t really came to me until I read so many blog posts against the insurance plan we just bought. Most blog posts I read were complaints on how the vultures of PPLIC lured and scammed them. There is an ocean of marketing strategies out there and no matter how obnoxious and intrusive, I knew theirs was just one of the many. Having worked in advertising and finance businesses in the past, their marketing ploy was not surprising for me at all.

The Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Co., Inc. (PPLIC) came in the picture just recently luring shoppers to claim freebies in exchange of a 45 minute talk – for promotion and advertisement purposes, they say. Jeedo and I went to LimKetKai Mall one lazy day just to spend time together. We didn’t really have a destination in mind so when an agent came to us and offered some goodies, we took the bait. They were very strategic and well-coordinated. Like a pack of goons passing bank money bags from one to another -flawlessly. We were escorted to their service car and were politely received at their 5th Floor office at the Gateway Tower. The staff were courteous and everyone seemed like on high spirits even at 8:00 in the evening.

The product was presented to us and to cut a very long exchange of stories short, we bought the premium package and paid in advance for the whole year. We shelled out around PHP24K in cold cash. My husband and I were pretty much impressed by their service and were happy about buying the product. It was more of a savings plan with insurance. Not a growth fund or term investment because the interest rate is really low. You can hardly feel the money growing with time. We already have insurance policies in PRULife UK and Philam. And Ea’s college is pretty much covered with that already. So this PPLIC pack we bought was more like putting money in a virtual piggy bank.

I know most of the rants were about the way they were lured into the Vulture’s Den. I would agree, the style is obnoxious and deceitful. If I were a skeptic type, I wouldn’t have delved into it. To be honest, I didn’t mind their strategy then as much as I do now – after reading a lot of blog posts. I admired the products but not their promos and agents. I’ve let go of their freebie pranks and have forgiven the vultures (ahem!). I’m concerned now if the products were real at all. If I’ll need it back at some point, will I get anything? Is there anyone out there who bought their products some 10 years ago and happily reaping its benefits now?

Lesson learned: Investments should be properly thought through – for way more than 45 minutes. There shouldn’t be any room for hasty decisions when it comes to expense, finances and savings. So I’m gonna go ahead and check the policy packs. I stowed it safely away thinking I just have to wait until it’s cooked and ready, haha.

They do have a website which you can find by clicking here.
