Ea’s in the Hospital :(

Categories:  Updates

This morning I rushed my daughter Ea to the ER for the very first time.  It was a sad and difficult but necessary choice to make.  She was having fever since Sunday evening.  The fever goes during the day and comes back at night.  It must have been caused by something she had eaten that Sunday morning.  During the first few days of her fever, I opted to just give her paracetamol and antihistamine thinking it was just an allergic reaction.   Last Thursday when she was yet strong enough to go out, I took her to her Pediatrician.   I wanted to be assured that she’ll be fine.  Ea was not at her best behavior during the check up.  What can we expect from a sick little girl.  She was so matamlay that the doc advised me to have her admitted to the hospital for further observation.  Ea is thin and has lost a lot of fluid the past days.  I was skeptical because I hate needles and IVs myself.  The thought of subjecting my own daughter to pain was mortifying enough for me.  So I bargained and the doc allowed us to go home but Ea should be under close observation.  The rule she gave me was that, if Ea does not take in more that 60 ml/cc of fluids that night, I should rush her to the emergency room right away.  At home, she only had a few sips of about 20ml juice for dinner.  Then she threw up just before bed time.  Had another 10ml of milk before she dozed off to sleep and nothing else until morning.

I was still looking for reasons to keep her home but she did not show any signs of progress.  After running a few searches over the Internet, I was left with no choice but to bring her to the hospital.  I feared Ea would be more stressed out there but I didn’t want to take any more chances either.

When I knew it was time to have her dextrose on, I took her for a little walk down the hospital garden.   We played with the plants and flowers for a bit.  To be honest, that little moment by the garden turned out to be — for my own peace of mind.  I was convincing myself that everything will be okay.  I practiced a scene mentally and told myself to stay strong and not burst into tears because my daughter needs me to be strong for her.  When we were both calm and I felt ready, I took her back to the ER.  Jeedo was there but I guess fathers have much stronger stance on crazy moments like this.  He was calm and assuring.

The ER scenario was not as bad as I thought.  I was triumphant in holding back my tears, LOL.  We had to wrap her with a blanket because she was screaming and moving furiously in pain.  But after a couple of minutes, she was calm.

We still don’t have the lab test results.  The doc hasn’t figured the real cause.  I hope it will be okay.  I left the hospital with her Papa and Lola looking after the little one.  My little big boy Jethro is at home waiting.  Here I am now, tinkering the keys at 4:00AM.  I guess I should go back to bed and get some sleep.  I need energy for another long day.  Very long day.

Touch Cures

Categories:  Baby Care, body care

Touch brings healing.  I think it’s second nature for mothers to really hold their little ones with a cuddle.   It’s our very first mode of communication that gives so much love and security to that little new life.    As the child learns to move around the house, then comes colds, fever and tantrums.  Coddling does wonders in the child’s recovery.   Therapeutic touch claims to reduce pain and anxiety.  That is true for most of us.  Although some would prefer healing in a distance.  I know someone who freaks out and squeaks whenever someone touches her back as in a massage.  Let me classify her as an unwilling patient.  The fact holds that everyone needs to be touched.  Touch therapists claim that when they place their hands on a patient, they are able to detect and manipulate the patient’s “touch points” or putative energy field.   This therapy recognizes that the healee (patient) heals himself.  The healer (therapists) is acting mainly as a support system, to aid in recovery, until the patient’s body is robust enough to take over and continue the healing process.

The human mind and body, as created by God, is very much capable of regeneration and self healing.  But it needs a support system to get going with the process.  This is one of the concepts and cause of the brain specialist Dr. Daniel Amen.  Treatment is provided at the Amen Clinic for patients in need of proper health care.  These Treatments for Symptoms are configured to fit the patient’s needs.

So when kids (and hubby) ask for a rub on the back, I won’t even think twice.  If their body heals more quickly with a touch, I might as well give mine.

Cataclysm and The Lost Isles

Categories:  Gaming

They say that in the world of Azeroth, any goblin would sell their best friend for a fistful of gold.  This is what brought the goblins to the The Lost Isles. When the cataclysm reawakened a volcano on their home island, one of the goblins’ trade princes, who owns a number of fleet ships took advantage and found that there was good money to be made in offering panicked goblins a ticket to safety on his ship.  He took their life savings of gold as the payment – and then planned to sell them into slavery. It could have been a clever plan until the ship fell apart in a naval crossfire between an Alliance fleet and a lone Horde ship. The shipwreck’s survivors washed ashore on the Lost Isles off the coast of Kalimdor.  This is where they discovered the island’s dense jungles harboring many mysteries and more than a few unpleasant surprises.   These little citizens are the best gold digger of all.  They excel in trading among all the races.  The truth is: only a few goblins blend shrewd business sense with a certain level of moral “flexibility”.  But they say that on this era, the goblins will finally decide which faction to join, to find where in the world they really belong.  I wonder if the class-wide character would ever change.  For sure, gold buying and selling gold coins for cash will always be their business.

Gold is an investment not just in the World of Warcraft.   The value appreciates each year because the source is no longer as abundant as it once was.  Did you know that Cash 4 Gold is in fact the original gold buyer? Don’t hesitate to sell gold online if you have plenty (or if you don’t need it anymore?).  You can’t bring it with you to the after life anyway.

Blogging is Hard

Categories:  Blogging

I bought my very first site Eklaboo.com 3 years ago.  Back then (2006), blogging was unheard of, well, it was, but not as it is now.  As a media buyer in the days when there was not much publishers and bloggers, it was challenging to get leads for our advertisers.  Some bloggers who just blogged for the sake of blogging even suspected my emails as spam and my offers as fraud.  It was challenging but fun.  I spent a great deal of time hopping from one blog to another, surfing from blogroll to blogroll only to get a handful of interested publishers at the end of the day.  I was doing that for around 3 years until we had an advertising system running.  It was fun.   I loved doing it and to be honest, I miss doing it – the blog buying job, that is.

So why do I say blogging is hard?  I’m just speaking for myself.  Don’t get me wrong.  Blogging is fun, not very easy – challenging in fact.  But you get to earn while having fun.  It’s finding time to blog that is hard.  To most bloggers, blogging serves as their outlet from the daily grind.  To me, blogging IS my daily grind.  I can’t tell anymore how many blogrolls I’ve rolled, sidebars counted, Entrecard dropped, links hovered, pages visited.  At the end of my normal day, as much as I wanted to mind my own blog, looking at one more would just make me puke!

If you have time to spare, then blog!  Consider yourself lucky for having such commodity.  The Internet is opening windows and doors of opportunities as I speak.  Yes, the market is getting competitive but so are the things that we can do to earn.  Everything is growing exponentially.  If you want to jump aboard the online marketing world, now is your best chance.

hmmm… Do I hear a “How?”  I shall cover a series of the how to’s of blogging and affiliate marketing in the coming days :)

MuLandia is on Season 4

Categories:  Gaming, News

Announcing to all Mutizens. The Mu continent just opened its 4th season. Here’s a video created by Jeedo:

There are many new features with Season 4, but the first important one is the 3rd Class Change. The term is actually a blanket title as only four of the six classes actually have a third profession while the others only have two. The Blade Knight, Muse Elf, Soul Master and Bloody Summoner are those four while the Magic Gladiator and Dark Lord are the two exceptions. Maximum level is at 400.

It’s a Flat World After All

The World Is Flat 3.0: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century

As I was studying Internet Marketing, online visibility and eCommerce, I couldn’t agree more with Thomas Friedman’s view of globalization.  The world is now a leveled playing field because of technology.  The Internet, specifically, enabled some stay-at-home moms to earn as much as a top rank CEO would in year.   Browsing through the web, you will find websites of small time sellers looking as professional as the big guys.  Both attracting customers with unlimited markets.   Communication has never been this possible and affordable.  My sisters who are residing in Australia and Canada gets to chat with me everyday. I get to talk with them more often than I do with my neighbors next door. When I was working in a call center, we used predictive dialers to automatically make calls without having to key in phone numbers. One quick call after the other. So quick that I get to talk to around people 20 people in an hour. And they have no idea that the caller is continents away from them.  The world that was believed to be flat was known to be round and now perceived to be flat (again).  Magellan would definitely dispute this new perception.  But if he were alive today, I’m pretty sure he would have just browsed eBay or Amazon for spices and gold.

Having Dental Problems Too Early

Categories:  Updates

Last night, just before bedtime, my little Ea squeezed in between my arms and chest for a cuddle.  It feels warm and lovely inside.  She looked up to me and smiled angelically.  I melted until I noticed her teeth looks rough and tinted.   My baby had an early teething and I wouldn’t wonder if she’ll have dental problems early as well.  But as much as possible I want my daughter to have a healthy dental life.  This is why seeing some brown tints on her milk teeth worried me.  I jumped and took her to the sink for a brush and teeth massage.

How early should parents be concerned about their child’s dental health?  As early as they get the signs of teething.  The first set of pearly whites are called Deciduous teeth.   These teeth form during the early stage of pregnancy and come out before or just a little after her first birthday.  Although it will definitely be replaced with a permanent teeth by age 6 or 7, the quality of the growth of permanent teeth would depend much on the spot left by the deciduous teeth.  This is where the formation of the jaw bones depend in order to maintain the proper space for permanent teeth.  Plus, the replacement will develop from the same tooth bud as the milk teeth.   It’s important that kids develop good dental habit early on.  So if you think I was over reacting, think again.

But if you have big kids now, it’s never too late to correct the problem.  What are experts, like a San Diego orthodontist, for?

Papa’s 59th

Categories:  Updates

My parent-in-laws came over for a visit today.  They often do every Saturday at around 4PM.  Whenever I make our daily menu, I always, always take that sked into consideration.  The dinner lined up for tonight was not very spectacular but I looked forward to it with anticipation.   Maybe because I missed the blend of itlog na maalat in crispy tomatoes and pickled radish.   Yep that was the abre-gana.  The dessert reflected my anticipation even more because I cooked it the earliest at around 10AM: Fruit medley gelatin.  The main course?  A humble Bam-i.  Just in case that sounds new to you, it simply is pancit bihon and pancit canton dancing cha-cha in a wok with chiken, carrots, cabbage and the usual ginisa rekados.  Our soup was yum too!  Fish tofu in spring onions and spinach.  I was happily setting the table when my Jethro asked for attention.  Just in time, dinner is ready.  I called everyone to the dinner table as I stepped aside to feed Jet with his cereal.

Then after saying grace, my ma-in-law sang “Happy Birthday” :D .   It is Papa’s birthday!  How nice.  I’m glad I prepared pancit :) ).  Long live the king!  They both loved the food!  Turned out Pa was missing the maalat and Ma was craving for pancit.  Perfect!

Worst Toddler Tantrums

Categories:  Baby Care

I was reading this page about toddler tantrums and I was surprised how much disaster some toddlers could bring on the verge of a meltdown. I have 2 babies now and I would like to prepare myself for the upcoming drama scenes. So I was curious as to how other mothers handled each toddler fit. I found these two stories below the most amusing. I think these moms deserve an applause for being quick with a rebuttal.

We were in the supermarket when he was 5, at the checkout line and he said he wanted a candy bar. They were right there at eye/hand level. I said no, too close to dinner and this really sweet little kid said in a very loud voice, “If you do not buy me a candy bar, I will kick your ass.” OMG, it was an EF Hutton moment, everyone went dead silent and turned to watch. I was totally speechless but then drew myself up straight, looked him right in the eye and sternly said, “When we get home, I am going to tell your Mother what you said!” He was so confused he just went with me when I grabbed his arm and marched out of the store.
Just totally denied him as mine, not my proudest moment but did manage to maintain a tiny shred of dignity. Never looked back to see if anyone actually believed my grand statement……

and this one too..

I took my son who is now 9, shopping at Macy’s when he was about 4 years old. I was buying clothes for him and the entire time he was moaning and whining that I was taking too long. He began to yell at me that I was a slow shopper. I was completely ignoring him and saying to him “mmmhmmm”. When we were at the checkout he had about had enough. He threw himself on the floor face down kicking and screaming. I finished paying for my things and said to him calmly, “are you ready to go?” He replied with, “Mommy, your fired!” I said back to him, “I’ve been waiting for you to say that for four years!”

I know I’ll have my own story to share in the future but think I’ll find myself doing the same thing in the future… hahaha! I’m really hoping my kids’ tantrums would be  “manageable” and not violent at all.  As early as now I am teaching them “anger management” in smoothest way I can.

If you read the stories of other moms, you’d be surprised how violent other kids are that they go hurting their moms (or themselves) during a tantrum.  To my opinion, those were early signs of behavioral problems.  I can’t judge the moms nor the kids though..

WOW Merge with Battle.net

Blizzard Entertainment hosts around a hundred of games.  For someone who plays any more than 2 of these games, account management is a crucial part.  This must be why Battle.net was built – to create a centralized account system for all Blizzard games.  I only play the most popular World of Warcraft.  I do not have multiple accounts to merge with.  But even so, I did my part.  All because I’m required to do so.  All WOW players are required to, unless you want to be left behind after the mass transfer.

The new Battle.net is an online game service with features designed specifically around Blizzard Entertainment titles, and will include a complete set of around-the-game features including a state-of-the-art matchmaking system, achievement system, social networking features, structured competitive play options, a marketplace, and much more.  The perks? it allows you to log in to World of Warcraft, manage purchases at the online Blizzard Store, keep track of CD keys for your Blizzard Entertainment games, access our websites (such as the World of Warcraft Armory), opt in to upcoming beta tests, and more using a single login — just your email address and a password.

One of the most important features that will be added in the future is the parental control system.  Apparently, this Wow account management tool has not been carried over yet.  Unless the parent or guardian plays, they may share the same Battle.net account with a minor player.  Monitoring is still possible.  Always possible.

How to merge?  Just go to Battle.net, and create an account.  After submitting the form, a link will take you to an account management page that will show “Merge with WOW”.  It’s pretty easy and will take no more than two minutes to complete if you follow the directions correctly.  If the merge is successful, you will get a Penguin Pet (which will be sent to you by mail) to keep you company on the WOW warzone.  This is what I’m only excited about hahaha!  I am a wow pet collector :D

I’ve heard stories of players who had problems logging in after the merge.  Some had to go through the tedious part of contacting Blizzard support, uninstalling and installing plug-ins and all that just to get the game running again.  Those glitches didn’t happen to my account, thankfully.  Sorry for those who had to go through all sorts of trouble.  I guess we just need to make sure we’re doing things right the first time.
