WOW Gamers: Beware of Account Log Phishers

Browsing through the hundreds of emails I get daily, I was disconcerted to find an email from “Blizzard.com” World of Warcraft Account Management.  Then I found a couple more sent on separate dates.  It was saying my account has been reported to be in violation of the End User License Agreement because it’s being sold.  I have two WOW accounts so I had to make sure which one is being questioned.  As far as I am concerned, the active one is running well, I just used it!  I want to make sure the links in the email were legit.  When I hovered the mouse over it, the links that should be directing to http://www.battle.net/account/support/login-support.xml were in fact directed to these landing pages:

www.worldofwarcraft-account-support.net
www.audit-login-worldofwarcraft.com
www.review-support-worldofwarcraft.com

These are very strong evidence that the emails were not from Blizzard itself but from phishers of WorldofWarcraft account log in details. WOW has never stopped announcing in-game that there are a lot of account hacking going around and players must be aware of the tactics to make sure they don’t fall into prey. WOW weaponry sets, Gold and a whole lot of treasures from backpacks, vaults and banks are being traded here and there. We don’t want to lose all those hard earned goodies, right?

So what would happen if you click the links by mistake? A bogus support page will show asking you to log in with your username and password. Hit enter and you’re doomed. The details you supplied will be stolen and changed so you can no longer access it. Ever. Again. Isn’t that heartbreaking?

For those who still have the account in one piece, here’s how the email reads. If you could also notice, the email is not personalized. Totally spammy. Legit emails from Blizzard would address you in full name and would show verifiers, as well. So BEWARE!!

An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded. As you may not be aware of, this conflicts with Blizzard’s EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:

Confession: I'm having a WoW affair

It’s the World of Warcraft (WoW).

I know I’m pregnant, I have a toddler to care for, a home to run and a project to supervise.  Don’t you think I deserve a break sometimes?  Gaming is just a fun way to detach from all the daily routines.   So pardon me if my “spare time” is rather spent killing mobs in Azeroth than shopping.   The game is not free but it’s definitely more economical than spending thousands on clothes and girly stuffs.  I do love shopping for my home though, don’t get me wrong.  What’s my advantage is that I have my husband’s support but on the following conditions:

1.  I should not stay up late (I violated this twice, but he was just right beside me nudging me to sleep to no avail).

2.  I should drop the game whenever Ea needs me ( I’ve kept this perfectly so far)

3.  I might pay for my own subscription which is $19.99 every 30 days and another fee to upgrade the account to Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King.

4.  I cannot renew my subscription until the new bub comes out and the kids settle into a steady routine.  My current subscription is expiring by 4PM today.  And I’m due this Saturday.  So bye for now, Azeroth.  I’ll be back.

I’m a gamer since I was around 19.  I enjoyed playing Starcraft then.  But I went full speed with Mu at 21, that’s the age when Jeedo and I started dating and the habit was never stopped until today because I married the man and the game as well.   Take note, he sends me sets to upgrade my gears, he gives me gold to purchase a mount, to train my in-game profession, etc…  Even in the game, he’s a great provider, don’t ‘ya think?  And that makes it obvious who influenced me into this crazy world of MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game).  I’ll have another blog to discuss what the game is all about.  You’ll find out when it’s ready.  I’m hoping it (the blog) will generate bucks on ads and traffic.  Any expenditure should return some benefits :D
